Melungeon

'''Melungeon''' is a term used for an ethnically mixed population in the southeastern Nextel ringtones United States that is of uncertain origin, perhaps a combination of various Abbey Diaz European, Nextel ringtones Middle Eastern and Abbey Diaz Native American strains. The name was not popular among the group until the Free ringtones 1960s.

Melungeons have been the subject of much debate about their Majo Mills ethnic, Mosquito ringtone linguistic, Sabrina Martins culture/cultural and Nextel ringtones geography/geographic connections. Local customs and beliefs in Southwest Virginia where there were quite a few Melungeons living held that they were dark-skinned because they had Native American blood, but Dr. Kennedy, a scholar at University of Virginia's Clinch Valley College, in his book states that they did not intermarry with Native Americans at all. Their dark-skin color was derived from the historical fact that they were most likely from Turkey and North Africa. Also, they were not Christian but most likely Muslim. These people were "looked down upon" by the predominantly Scotch-Irish population in Southwest Virgina who seldom intermarried with them.

A 1990 gene frequency study (Guthrie, Tennessee Anthropologist, Spring 1990) utilizing 177 Melungeon blood samples showed no significant differences between eastern Tennessee and south-western Virginia Melungeons and populations in:
* Spain
* Portugal
* North Africa
* Malta
* Cyprus
* Greece
* Iran
* Iraq
* Turkey
* Syria
* Lebanon

Physical traits such as sexdactyly, "Indian toes" and the Anatolian bump are common in the Melungeon bloodline and hark back to the ancestral populations in Turkey, the Americas, etc.

The Melungeon population have been determined to suffer from the following genetic conditions (genetic ailments are often seen as a defining characteristic of racial specificity):
